Michael Spellman
His education continued at Plattsburgh State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication. While attending SUNY Plattsburgh Michael hosted numerous News, Sports and Variety shows which earned him a Male Talent of the Year award his Junior year, an award voted upon by his peers and professors. It was at Plattsburgh that Michael's love for sports reporting became evident, in his work as an anchor and later producer and director of Cardinal Sports and the live call-in show Sports Rap Live, as well as his work as play-by-play announcer for Cardinal basketball.
Upon leaving Plattsburgh Michael did free lance work for ESPN's Great Outdoor games in Lake Placid and in the summer of 2002 began working at WFXV-WPNY. Since joining Nexstar Broadcasting, Michael has been seen on our stations airwaves in numerous capacities, but some of his favorite hosting/reporting gigs have included the Boilermaker, the American Heart Association's Heart Run and Walk, the MDA telethon and one of his first on-air jobs, the WPNY Saturday Night Live Movie.
Michael continues to love reporting on local sports. From his Friday morning sports segment on WUTR's The Link, to spending a season calling play-by-play action for the Little Falls Miners (now the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs), to his work today co-anchoring Friday Night Fever, Michael loves the excitement and drama of Central New York Sports.
Michael's love of sports started with his first year of tee-ball and he has been a Mets fan since the 1986 season. Michael lettered in three Varsity sports while attending New York Mills and continued playing baseball while at HCCC and was named a team captain of Plattsburgh's baseball team his senior year of college. He can still be found on the softball fields of Central New York and also enjoys golfing, hiking and bowling. You can get in touch with Michael at mspellman@wutr.tv
