Officials assessing the damage in Oneida County

While others are still assessing the damage and drying out Central New Yorkers are left to wonder what could have been. It looks like Central New York dodged the bullet.
While what was known as Hurricane Sandy pummeled New York City and other parts of the east coast with driving rain, gusty winds, and a record storm surge Central New York, for the most part, was left intact.
Area officials are assessing the actions taken in advance of now "Superstorm Sandy." As we reported to you, the city of Utica implemented an emergency preparedness plan last night.
Utica police and fire responded to 37 calls for wires down, disabled cars, and transformer fires. Oneida County also had its own command post at the 9-1-1 operating center in Oriskany.
Oneida County executive Anthony Picente says it is always good to be over- prepared than sorry.
"You appear to be in harm's way you have to protect people and property. I think we did that with all other local officials. We responded, we were prepared in case of a power outage or damages," said County Executive, Anthony Picente.
The County Executive says there were no reported injuries in Oneida County from the storm.
