Central New York Diabetes Education Program Holds Diabetes Open House

By: Rachel Polansky
Updated: November 13, 2012
November is recognized as National Diabetes Education Month and an area program is spreading the word. Central New York Diabetes Education Program held a diabetes open house at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare this afternoon. Attendees learned about nutritional management, blood sugar monitoring, and strategies to manage and identify diabetes.

"Diabetes often comes without any signs or symptoms and sometimes people don't realize their blood sugar is high or even know what their risk factors might be for developing diabetes. So part of what we're doing is a screening and I think it gives them a much better understanding of their need to be tested," says Caroline Jacobus, nurse diabetes educator.

Attendees could get free glucose screenings and more insight into the services offered at Central New York Diabetes.
