Remsen Elementary Students and staff are making the holidays a little brighter for some local troops overseas.

For over a month several students have been collecting donations to put together care packages for troops from the Remsen area.

They'll be getting all sorts of food, basic necessities, and personalized cards and American flags handmade by the students.

"You're helping the country because if you don't send stuff over to them they wont be able to fight for the country," said Remsen student, Carl Framsman.

"We thought it was really important that we thank them and appreciate what they do all year long for us, and we could never do what they do. It's just amazing," said Remsen Elementary teacher, Jen McEvoy.

The students plan to ship out the packages this week.
