The Utica City School District is looking at a nearly $6 million deficit in the proposed 2013-2014 budget.

The budget includes 88 positions slated to be cut.

Here's a look at the positions on the chopping block.

54 Teachers
4.5 Administrators
11 Teaching Assistants and Support Staff
12.5 Clerical and Technology
6 Custodial and Trades

Superintendent Bruce Karam says fewer teachers means the schools will be seeing larger class sizes with the proposed cuts.

He says the reason for the gap in the budget is because the district isn't getting the proper funding by the state.

As for the revenue problem, Mr. Karam says the charter school being approved is going to take another $1.8 million from the district the first year it's running.

"For every student that goes to the charter school, the state aid goes with the student. For example, using round numbers if the state aid is 10,000 per student, that 10,000 follows the student to the charter school therefore we send the charter school that state aid," said Karam.

Mr. Karam says with the charter school, they don't have an exact number yet.

He does say that the charter school did tell them they plan on having around 176 students.

As far as taxes, the budget includes a two percent increase.
